Mettere insieme le parti
Umberto Corsucci ha poco a che vedere con gli sfinimenti dell’arte concettuale e i rovelli che consumano i giorni degli artisti in cerca affannosa di successo.
Parlo di quelli che si sbattano a destra e a sinistra da un gallerista all’altro, da un critico all’altro; i testimonial di un mondo di ideuzze e di illusioni.
Un mondo drogato dove il sensazionalismo è tutto e la ricerca quotidiana, operosa e onesta sono meno che nulla. Questo artista, nato a Sassocorvaro nel ’51 dopo aver studiato presso l’Istituto d’Arte di Pesaro nel ’70, si è diplomato in scultura a Brera. Insomma, non ha sfruttato le scorciatoie della mondanità e non ha conosciuto le accelerazioni carrieristiche dovute alle facilitazioni nepotistiche o, come si dice oggi, politiche.
Umberto Corsucci vive e lavora in Montefiore Conca, piccolo centro storico posto sulla collina della riviera romagnola, dove ha il suo studio e la sua personale fonderia. Egli, oltre a lavorare indefessamente, proprio qui tiene i suoi corsi di scultura e le relazioni che intrattiene sono di livello internazionale.
Il tratto fondamentale dell’investigazione plastica di questo autore aspira e riesce a dimostrare che non esiste separatezza fra braccio e mente, che la componente artigianale del lavoro dello scultore vale non meno di quella mentale. In altre parole, questo artista romagnolo falsifica (nel senso che smentisce) qualsiasi concezione meccanicamente dualistica che tenda a superare il corpo della mente, lo spirito della materia, il qui d’altrove.
Di questi tempi, questa impostazione che la scultura di Corsucci rende palpabile ha il valore aggiunto di contrastare una deriva che sulla frantumazione della realtà, sull’alienazione, sulla divisione del fare e del sapere fonda le sue fortune.

The sculptor’s creative force impacts marble, bronze, and ceramic. He works to bend to his sculptural purposes the materials whose molecular structure is best suited to lasting over time. He challenges the demands of balance, form, space, and innovation, which, taken together, shape a project for the transformation of reality, embodying ethical as well as aesthetic principles.
The spatial arrangement of Umberto Corsucci ‘s works is not a mere transposition. Indeed, space is functional to his sculpture, just as sculpture is functional to space.
Rather, it is space that gives meaning to the bulk of the material, lightening it when needed, and highlighting its volumes when necessary.
Just look at some of this artist’s works to understand this. Consider the travertine Homage to Columbus from 1992, the bronze Sea Gate from 1999, the Corten steel and marble Installation of a UFO from 2001, and the ceramic Vitality from 2009.
The latest works by the artist from Romagna, while harking back to previous works such as Installation of a UFO , rediscover the value of a brightness capable of providing the surface of a new theatre of images.
Reflective effects invade the circular, tube-like surfaces, within which the shapes of figures and objects arriving from outside open up a kaleidoscopic landscape of fantastical space. What is proposed is the pleasure of a retinal and mental exploration, of a sensorial, but also psychic, experience capable of blending, in a daring synthesis, the roughness of an object that alludes to the thorns of life (of Calvary) and the intact, smooth, and luminous surface of steel. Which is to say, taking everything into account. Of evil and good. Of difficulties and miraculous facilitations. Of the weight of the present-past and the hope-threat of an unknown future. Of the here and the elsewhere, of the sublime, of the immanent and the materiality of a transcendent we can perceive only from our human condition.
