If you love art and craftsmanship, if the world of sculpture fascinates you, and you have ever wondered how bronze statues are made, this course is designed for you. An immersive journey to enter the heart of one of the oldest and most captivating techniques in the history of art: lost wax casting.

Welcome to the Artistic Foundry Course – Bronze

The Montemaggiore Arte Association invites you to take part in a high-level artistic training course dedicated to bronze casting, with in-depth study of the different techniques of pouring, finishing, and patination.

Where
The course takes place in the creative laboratories of MISAM – the International Museum of Open-Air Sculpture, at the Montemaggiore Arte Cultural Association, adjacent to the charming village of Montefiore Conca (RN), in Emilia-Romagna.

A unique setting: a hill overlooking the sea, surrounded by greenery, unspoiled landscapes, and breathtaking views—an ideal place to stimulate inspiration and concentration. Discover more about the location here.

When
Lost wax casting courses are held during the cooler periods of the year, ideal for safely and effectively managing the delicate pouring phases:

  • from April to June

  • from September to October 2026

Who the course is for
The course is open to everyone: beginners, enthusiasts, and professionals of all ages, provided they are over 18 years old.
A basic knowledge of modeling is required. Upon request, the MISAM staff can organize a preparatory basic modeling course.

Program and what is included
The course provides a comprehensive approach to all stages of bronze casting:

  • techniques and concepts of the preparatory phases

  • creation of models in plaster or other materials suitable for casting

  • lost wax casting

  • chasing and patination

  • metalworking technologies

  • use of professional materials and tools

Participants will receive personalized assistance and direct coaching from sculptor Umberto Corsucci and his staff.

The course includes:

  • all materials necessary for the creation of the artworks

  • personal protective equipment (masks, gloves, safety shoes)

  • accident and civil liability insurance

  • board and lodging (see details below)

The artworks created during the course remain the property of the student (the artworks must not exceed a maximum height of 20 cm).

Duration and schedule
Duration: 12 days, spread over 2 weeks

Days: Monday to Saturday

Hours: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (afternoon session optional)

Customized dates can be arranged in agreement with the Montemaggiore Arte Association.
